About Manaia
A guardian by name. A guardian by nature.
The meaning behind the name
The name Manaia comes from te ao Maori (the Maori world). In Maori tradition, the Manaia is an ancient guardian spirit — depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a person, and the tail of a fish. A being that moves freely between sky, earth, and sea, standing as a watchful shield between those it guards and anything that would harm them.
For generations, Manaia have been carved in pounamu (greenstone) and gifted between loved ones as a sign of protection. Some carvings depict a Manaia alongside a child — a guardian watching over the family.
The name draws from mana — meaning spiritual power and authority in te reo Maori. It's not just a symbol. It's a promise of protection.

Built by a parent. For parents.
Manaia was built by a parent who was tired of the options. Enterprise-grade cybersecurity existed — but it cost millions and required an IT department. Consumer products existed — but they were either too complicated, too limited, or too American.
Australian families deserve protection that's built here, priced fairly, and explained in plain English. Not in jargon. Not behind a paywall of complexity.
Manaia brings the kind of protection big companies pay millions for — and makes it available to Australian families, at a fraction of the cost.
Built in Australia
Manaia runs entirely in Australian data centres (Sydney and Melbourne). Your family's internet traffic never leaves the country. Our threat database is tuned for Australian scams — the fake MyGov pages, the ACCC-flagged sites, the “Australia Post couldn't deliver your parcel” texts that lead to dodgy websites.
As of December 2025, Australian law prohibits social media platforms from allowing users under 16 to create accounts. But enforcement relies on the platforms themselves. Manaia acts as your family's safety net — regardless of what platforms do or don't enforce.
